Arizona's Left Leaning Community
"The TCE under the ground is actually coming up through the ground and into the air in Phoenix," said Steve Brittle, an environmentalist and president of a group called Don't Waste Arizona.
Brittle is referring to Trichloroethylene, or TCE, which was…

RE: The National Gun Violence Crisis.
Please support strong, common sense regulation of guns, at the very least:
- universal background checks, including at gun shows,
- a ban on high-capacity magazines over 10 rounds,…

I hope I do not read as being trivial and childish in this minor complaint about liberal and centrist media outlets. When I am not reading news stories online (the source I prefer when it comes to getting accurate detail that has not been degraded by one point of view before I can even consume the information), I watch many left-leaning, thoughtful news programs on television.…
BEWARE OF TING'S THING: California Assemblyman Phil Ting has proposed AB 19, a bill to require the California Secretary of State to implement an Internet voting pilot project.
And if you don't live in California: There are efforts to provide federal cash incentives to any state that "expedites" its voting process. And that will likely be used…
America has a tragically dysfunctional healthcare system. For starters, it is the MOST EXPENSIVE in the world, annually spending $6,933 per capita compared to $2,981 in other developed countries - more than a Trillion dollars extra; the entire budget deficit each and every year.
BUT, cost is the least important of the dysfunctions. That our life expectancy is one to four years less than in other developed countries grossly understates the FAILURE TO KEEP OURSELVES ALIVE. Our low life…Continue

There are three legs to voter suppression in Arizona - SO FAR. All initiated by Republican election officials.
First, giving the wrong date for the election in Spanish. Even if you think all voters should speak English, you cannot countenance telling people the wrong date in any language.
Second, publicly announcing that people commit a felony when they receive ballots from others in order to turn the ballots in. It just is NOT TRUE that receiving someone else's ballot and…Continue

It astonishes me that the Arizona Republic recommended Amanda Reeve for the Arizona House, especially in light of Laura Roberts campaign about de-kooking the legislature. Don’t they look at voting records? Amanda was right there with all the kooks – sometimes leading them. For instance:
In 2011 and 2012 Reeve voted Yes on the bill authorizing the carrying of concealed weapons on college campuses. This year she voted to require federal agents to notify county sheriffs of their actions,…Continue

LD20 is east of 67th Ave, west of Cave Creek, north of Dunlap (Thurderbird on the east side of I-17) and south of Bell (Union Hills east of 35th Ave).
Michael Powell is the Democrat running for the Senate in this District and he is running against Republican Kimberly Yee and Independent Doug Quelland. Those two may split the Republican vote, making a Powell win more likely. Yee was the sponsor of the bill to ban all abortions after 20 weeks. Quelland, a Republican was…Continue

Cross posted from Don't Waste Arizona:
Researchers at Don't Waste Arizona have been reviewing public records at environmental agencies for over twenty years, but we have never seen this before - a state representative, the chair of the House Environment Committee, fixing the ticket for her friends. You can see for yourself:…Continue

Yesterday arguments were heard in front of Judge Mark Brain in regard to the complaint made against Open Government Committee (Top 2 ballot initiative) stating violation of the AZ single subject rule for initiatives.
The Judge promised a decision early next week. At this time, plaintiffs Save Our Vote, Republicans Lisa Gray and Jamie Molera, Libertarian Barry Hess and the League of Women Voters of Arizona were joined…Continue

Representing Don't Waste Arizona, I attended and participated in Arizona Dept.of Environmental Quality’s planning session regarding this issue about ten years ago, so that begs the question: Why are these concerns just now being raised? The entire plan and program was laid out at that time. It was done at ADEQ during the Fife Symington/Ed Fox administration.
The other natural gas fired power plants had to implement this SCR technology to control NOx when they were seeking permits…

~ JUNE 25, 2012 / ON JUNE 21, THE NINTH CIRCUIT HANDS DOWN WHAT IS ESSENTIALLY A "SLAP JUDGMENT" AGAINST "JOHN Q. PUBLIC"
The message from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals was clear: if you are concerned about the environment; if you want to protect Native American sacred areas; or even if you simply want to make sure that the federal government complies with its own environmental obligations, go home. You are not welcome in the Ninth Circuit. You have no right to due…Continue

I am opposed to making the one cent sales tax permanent as proposed by the Arizona Sales Tax Renewal Amendment, which will likely appear on November 6, 2012 ballot. This may not make me popular in some quarters, but please hear me out. I voted for and supported the original temporary one cent sales tax in May 2010, but I have serious reservations about this latest initiative.
This initiative does far more than simply extend and make permanent the temporary one cent sales tax…Continue

Maricopa County Attorney
301 W Jefferson St
Phoenix, AZ 85003
Dear Mr. Montgomery:
I was surprised and most disappointed by your May 7, 2012 response to the request by Citizens for a Better Arizona of May 3, 2012.
You must know that the reason you gave mis-states reality. It is simply untrue that the “forum” conducted by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors on January 31 provided “unfiltered…Continue
